OOTD - birthday suit

I've been horrendous at blogging regularly whilst over in America. Massive apologies. I've missed a TWTW post.. baaaad blogger - but I've just been so busy in the run up to Christmas. Went to Boston on Friday with my sister and her two friends from over here.. for what I thought was just going to be an early night out for my birthday.. no, we went to see bloody Beyonce!?? Complete and utter surprise.. my sister got the tickets out whilst we were on the train and I was in so much shock that I didn't speak for a good half hour. Needless to say, Queen B was AMAZING. I really think that regardless of what music you're into - its kinda impossible not to be a fan of her. She's flawless.

Today is the big 2-3 for me ha. Doesn't feel much different I'll be honest.. but I can't sing Taylor Swift 22 anymore.. boo.. the day consisted of a lie-in, presents, onesie, crap daytime tv, getting a mani/pedi and beautiful meal and drinks with the girls. Anyway, here's what I wore today..

..now i'm all over the shop.

I'm having a bit of a funny week. Trying to get my christmas shopping and wrapping done. Pack for America on Thursday. And on top of that, I'm ill. Coughing my head off.

I feel a bit all over the place. So much to do, but I just can't focus. I hate feeling like things are up in the air and not sorted or decided. I like things to be certain. And I still feel really unsure about a few areas of my life. UGH. I know I have so much to look forward to in the next couple of months, and I'm really grateful.. but I just can't seem to shake this unsettled feeling. /rant.

Review : Vitamin E products from the BodyShop

Vitamin E Face Mist | Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream | Vitamin E Eye Cream

I'm not a big BodyShop buyer. I browse quite a lot, and I'm in love with their Wild Rose Hand Cream - but its very rare that I spend much in there. Early last month, I gave in and decided to treat myself. Of course, BodyShop had their 3 for 2 offer on skincare so I took advantage of that and turned to the Vitamin E products. My skin type is mainly dry and having tried products with vitamin E (an antioxidant that protects and repairs your skin) from various other shops before - I thought this range would be a good investment. I purchased the Face Mist, the Nourishing Night Cream and the Eye Cream - after using them regularly for the past month, I thought I'd give a little review of each.

Vitamin E Face Mist ~ £8.00
I was first compelled to try this after my friend (a former BodyShop employee and skincare expert) recommended the similar Vitamin C Energizing Face Spritz product from there. I'm more of a fan of rosewater scent, another attraction for me with this range, and so sided for this. Described by the BodyShop as "a quick skin pick-me up and excellent for setting make-up. Spritz it on for instant refreshment, moisture, and protection.". True to its word - I've found that using it for setting makeup, it works very well, and dries seconds after you spray - as long as you hold it at the recommended distance away from your face, otherwise you just end up with wet makeup! I can imagine it would also work well to freshen up on a warm day as it is very refreshing, but I'll have to wait until the summer months to try that one out properly. The rosewater scent, as I mentioned above, is also beautifulll. And a very handbag-friendly product!

Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream ~ £11.00
This is definitely my favourite of the three. I'm a huge believer in night-time skincare - including removing makeup (ALWAYS), definitely cleansing and using a good moisturising night cream. A best seller, this cream not only smells fantastic but is so thick and silky to apply - great for those of us with dry skin. The BodyShop claims the product "Intensively hydrates. Works when skin is at its most receptive. Leaves skin soft and smooth" and even the morning after, my skin still feels moisturised. Would definitely recommend this little beauty - I'll be repurchasing!
Vitamin E Eye Cream ~ £10.00
I may only be 22 (and 11months), but I've noticed a few laughter lines around my eyes appear - and while I'm not too paranoid about such things, I figured I'd give an eye cream a try. The BodyShop promises that this product "Hydrates skin in the eye area. Reduces the appearance of fine lines. Leaves skin feeling soft and smooth. Gentle massage helps reduce puffiness". After using it every other night the past month, I've definitely noticed it improve the puffiness and appearance of the lines I have. I wouldn't say it its made a ground-breaking difference, but then again, its not like I have any major crow's feet going on. Although, they do say you should start anti-ageing skincare in your 20s..

OOTN - Christmassy Family Meal

Last night, I went for a family meal with my sister, mam, and all four grandparents. My sister lives in the States and is home for a couple of weeks before I go back with her for the holidays. So as we won't get Christmas Day at home, it was like our little family Christmas early.

So er.. I dyed my hair again - [L'oreal Paris Casting Creme Gloss (515 Chocolate Truffle)]

BUT ITS STILL BROWN!! It's still brown! I promise!
I just had to do something as it had faded so much and I didn't want it to look rubbish by new year. It's been driving me crazy this past month, as I mentioned here. I'm going to Vegas and really don't want the photos haunting me.
I chose a semi-permanent colour from L'oreal. I've already used the Casting Creme Glosses in the Platinum Blonde shades back when I was a blondie and was impressed. This time I chose shade 515 Chocolate Truffle. I'm a bit of a home dye veteran, so it wasn't difficult and only took around 45 minutes to do completely - but I think the whole product is pretty easy to use in general*. It comes with paper instructions, gloves, a tube of colourant, developer creme and a bottle of shine enhancing conditioner.

As you can see from the photos below, its a lot darker - but then again, my hair was almost back to blonde! I'm really liking it so far, just got to get to grips with my changing up my makeup a little - although it only lasts up to 28 shampoos so we'll see..

*If you've never dyed your own hair before, go to the hairdressers! It's really not worth the hassle of getting it wrong or staining your clothes/bathroom/skin. Its tricky and can take practice - I've done my own hair since I was 14. If you really want to do it, have a friend help the first few times.

thinking aloud : tainted music.

Unless you've been living under the proverbial rock the past few days (or months) - you'll have heard the name Ian Watkins banded around. He was the lead singer of Welsh rock band Lostprophets. And he's just pleaded guilty and been convicted of numerous sex offences against very young children. Further details have emerged at the extent of the abuse he's apparently carried out over the years and its been called by some 'the worst case they've ever seen'. I won't list them here, its all over the net, but safe to say its absolutely sickening.

Its crazy, it seems almost every other day that another former children's presenter, politician, radio DJ or well-known personality is accused of such horrendous offences.. and while Rolf Harris broke my heart, it was this one that really shocked me.

Lostprophets were a band I spent a lot of my teenage years listening to. I loved them. I went to their gigs. I even had posters of Ian on my wall. I thought he was beautiful. Truly. Their music evolved over the years, as with any band - and from 'Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja' to 'Where We Belong', I listened to it.

There are always rumours and stories about bands and their fans - and agree with me or not, 16 year old girls are a different story altogether - but the idea that someone you admire could be capable of doing such extreme horrible things to children is so bizarre. I'd hoped after the announcement of his arrest in December it would all be some big mistake, after all, he'd 'furiously denied' the reports to begin with. But no. On the 26th of this month, he pleaded guilty to all offences. The mugshot will haunt me forever - it didn't look like the same person - not a 36 year old successful musician - he looked like a haggard, dirty old man.

As a fan of their music I felt a range of feelings. Absolute disgust at his actions. Complete sadness for his poor victims - they're children for god sake! -  and relief that he'd been caught of course. But then my mind turned to his former bandmates - this whole year must've have been heartbreaking and confusing and it really didn't surprise me when they announced that Lostprophets were no more early last month.
So that's that.

But then comes the question - can I still listen to Lostprophets? A band who formed a big part of my musical taste as a teenager? Do I skip the track if it comes on shuffle? Or do I delete all their music off my ipod all together?
Part of me thinks, no. The music is still fucking great and some of the songs mean a lot to me. Plus there are several other band members who worked hard on this music. Its not all him.
However - it is his voice. When I listen to their music, its his words I'm listening to. And it just seems.. tainted somehow. I don't honestly know if I could separate the music from the individual.
Reports that HMV are now removing all Lostprophets music from their stores since the revelations made me think..

Jimmy Savile, Gary Glitter and the rest.. they were all part of something. Part of our history - whether it be through music, television and entertainment. And however unforgivable the crime, can we really just ignore them.? Is it possible to erase them from memory and pretend they just never existed??

I'm unsure.

DROPDEAD WINTER 2013 - wish list!

I love Bring Me the Horizon. I love Oliver Sykes. And I heart DropDead.. The new line for Winter 2013 dropped today (21/11/13) and I've already penned an extensive wish list..

Wherefore art thou Adrien..?

Do you believe in fate? Or that certain things are meant to happen? I've never been sure myself. I like the thought of being in control of my own life..it kinda unsettles me to think EVERYTHING is planned out exactly.. but sometimes, it feels as though some things are just meant to be.

Today I ventured into town with a friend for an Orange and Chocolate Mocha Latte and to do some much needed Christmas shopping. It was rather chilly, so I layered up a bit. I also like clashing the tartan print and zebra dress. 'scuse the dirty mirror..

Not all those who wander are lost..

Me and my mam went for a walk the other morning. A nice clear and sunny (yet bloody windy) Autumn day. We went up to the slag banks which gives a great view of the channel, the isle of Walney (where I grew up) and Black Combe in the distance.
Gorgeous day, but freezing!

Any sunny day, I love going for a trek somewhere..especially this time of year where you can get all wrapped up. And luckily there's loads of places around where I live to go for a wander..
Have you been on any autumn walks recently?

Did I ever tell you about the time..

..when I bought that really nice blue tartan swing coat in the sale at New Look? Was proper chuffed. Got it home. Then realised it was from the maternity section..
I cut out the label so that no one would ever know .. despite the fact that whenever I wear it I look stylish, yet around five months pregnant..
Around 2 years have past and this episode still annoys me. Just don't tell anyone, ok?

Just a tiny M&S haul..

Today has been all about Knickers and Tea.
Is there anything more important in a girl's life? Or maybe I'm just speaking for myself there.
If you're from Britain or just know anything about underwear, you'll know Marks & Spencers are famous for their knicks. And with a 3 for £10 offer on, I just couldn't resist.
Originally £5 each, I picked up these cute lacey brazilian pairs in white, magenta and light pink.
Also while I was in there and browsing the food - I came across these. M&S have quite a good little range of teas and coffees, but despite being a big fruit/floral tea fan, I'd never actually tried any of theirs. So I ended up choosing Detox infusion (£1.29 for 20bags), which is a caffeine-free tea with nettle, dandelion and milkthistle. And Organic Green Tea With Jasmine infusion (99p for 20bags), which I'm dying to try as Jasmine Green tea is one of my favourite flavours.
So far I've only tried the Detox one, which is lovely and calming with a bit of a minty kick, but not too overpowering. But I'm even impressed with the little boxes they came in. I'm a total sucker for pretty packaging and these green and pink floral boxes with cute illustrations on really drew my eye. I'm definitely up for trying more type from their little range of teas.
I'm also in love with the dreamy christmas 2013 advert from M&S featuring the gorgeous Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Essex lad David Gandy and the legend that is Helena Bonham Carter. Watch it here if you haven't seen it already..

I Want It - wish list!

I just love clothes and I love nothing better that spending my money on new thingssss. Recently, I've tried my very best to get rid of stuff I don't wear.. so I kinda have an excuse to buy any new things - but my wardrobe is still suffering.. The rail's fallen down twice this week. Anyhow, a girl can still window-shop..or online window-shop. Too many things end up in my wish lists or shopping baskets.. only to never be purchased. Here's a few things I've been mooning over recently for the autumn/winter season..

Monday, 28 October 2013

"In the regular world, Halloween is when children dress up in costumes and beg for candy. In Girl World, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it."

Halloween is fast approaching.. and I don't actually have any plans for this year. No nights out or parties.. and I'm a little bit old for trick-or-treating I think. I'll probably be on door duty at our house as they're tons of kids around here. Anyhow, despite having no plans, I thought I'd do a Halloweeny-type outfit post. I took a chance in my back garden while it wasn't raining and/or blowing a hoola. There's also a sneaky appearance from Oliver the cat.

In Search of the Perfect Winter Boot..

Where has this year gone? Already we're knocking on the door of November. The days are getting shorter, wetter and inevitably colder. Along with stocking up my wardrobe with a few new wintery goodies like hats, scarves, woolly tights and every cosy jumper I can find, I've been on the search.. for the perfect winter boot.
